Although previously and unjustly maligned for excessive out payments, 0870 numbers are still available and indeed still in use by many companies. Out payments have been prohibited by OFCOM but the numbers still retain their useful characteristics of anonymity and redirect-ability.
In fact the BBC have retained their 08700 100 200 phone number for BBC Radio 2 but in line with other users, have changed the prefix to 03700 which every user of an 0870 number can also do if they so wish.
Such a change will bring the number in line with other 03 numbers, of which more can be found on our 03 UK Wide page.
There is now a small charge to the user to receive 0870 calls and the caller pays the National Rate from a BT land line. Rates from other carriers and mobiles will vary.
